Inmate at Chautauqua County Jail charged with assault on corrections officer...         
An inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail is now charged with assault for allegedly kicking and injuring a corrections officer last week.  Sheriff's officers say their Criminal Investigation Division received the complaint early last week about the incident.  After their investigation... 45 year-old Robert Schroder was arrested for second-degree assault... and, he was taken for centralized arraignment before being returned to the inmate population.  He's to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.

Dunkirk-area man arrested following domestic incident in Fredonia last week...
A man from the Dunkirk area was taken into custody after an investigation into a reported domestic dispute in the village of Fredonia a week ago.   Fredonia Police were called to a Brigham Road residence shortly after Midnight last Thursday... and, found that 19-year-old Matthew Bongiovanni allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face, causing injuries to the victim's face and eye, as well as a loss of consciousness.  Officers say the incident occurred in the presence of a 3-month-old child and a 2-year-old child.  Bongiovanni was charged with second-degree assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was taken to the County Jail... arraigned... and, held on $5,000 cash bail.

JPS Board approves "District-wide School Safety Plan..."
The Jamestown School Board has approved the "District-wide School Safety Program" for the new school year -- which begins a week from today.  School Superintendent Dr. Kevin Whitaker says the plan was adopted after a public hearing Tuesday night.  He says the program is sometimes difficult to talk about because there are parts of it that are made public... and, others that are not.  He says fire drills and some others are discussed publicly... but, others are not discussed in the public because you don't know "who is a bad actor out there."  Dr. Whitaker says there aren't many changes being made to the public portion of the policy.  He says there are some procedural changes at the high school -- mainly regarding the scanning of hand bags and back-parks.  Next Wednesday, Sept. 2... will the be the first-day of school... and, it will be a half-day for all students.

"Twisted up" American flags over the Third St. Bridge in Jamestown drawing complaints from residents and city leaders...
Seeing the American flag wave -- unfettered -- is something everyone likes to see.  However... when the flag gets tangled up on it's pole, it's troubling.  That exact problem involving several flags on the Third Street Bridge in Jamestown -- has drawn the ire of several residents, and city leaders.  The matter was recently discussed by the City Council's Public Safety Committee -- led by Chairman Dan Gonzalez -- who says they've gotten complaints about the matter.  Gonzalez says they are working with Parks officials on ways to take care of it.  Mayor Kim Ecklund says it's actually been a problem the past two years.  She says the Parks Department and the Veteran's Commission have been working on a way to keep the flags unfurled.  Ecklund says weights can help... but, adds you don't want to use too much because officials don't want them breaking and falling onto pedestrians and cars on the bridge.  She says the flags were a "generous gift" from a family to be placed on the Third Street Bridge.

Investigation continues into fire at vacant house on Jamestown's northside...
The investigation is continuing into Tuesday's early morning fire that damaged the upper levels of a vacant, two-story home on Jamestown's northside that were heavily-damaged.  City Fire Battalion Chief Ben McLaughlin says firefighters were called to the scene at 629 Prendergast Ave. shortly after 2 a.m., and, found flames coming from the front of the building and through the roof of the structure.  McLaughlin says crews were able to bring the blaze under control quickly... but, not before the roof collapsed.  An off-duty shift of seven was called... and, no injuries were reported.  Firefighters were at the scene about five hours.  

Cause also sought in connection with house fire just outside of Lakewood...
Four area fire departments responded to an early morning fire Tuesday that significantly damaged a home just outside of Lakewood.  Sheriff's Office emergency dispatchers say Lakewood firefighters were called to the scene at 4381 West Fairmount Ave. in Busti about 5:30 a.m., and, were joined at the scene by Ashville, Busti and Celoron fire crews.  They were at the scene just over two-hours.  No injuries were reported... and the cause was under investigation.

City man arrested as fugitive from justice in town of Mina...
A Jamestown man has been arrested in the town of Mina for being an alleged fugitive from justice in Pennsylvania.  Sheriff's officers say they responded to a property damage accident on Interstate 86 shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday... and, identified one of the people at the scene at 49 year-old Henry Stovall, Junior.  Deputies say their investigation found that Stovall was wanted in the state of Pennsylvania.  He was arrested... and, taken to the county jail on one count of being a fugitive from justice.  Stovall was jailed pending his extradition hearing back to Pennsylvania.
