Two men from outside Chautauqua County killed in two-car, fatal crash in town of Chautauqua...         
Two men from outside the area were killed Thursday afternoon were killed in a two-car crash on Route 430 in the town of Chautauqua.  Sheriff's officers say they and fire rescuers were called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. Deputies say the eastbound car, driven by 23 year-old Alexander Morelli of Meadville, Pa., crossed the double-solid center line and struck the on-coming vehicle... operated by 51 year-old Doug Griffith of Massena, NY.  Officers say both men died at the scene.


Man rescued in Ripley area after getting pinned under a tree...
A man had to be rescued in the Ripley area yesterday afternoon after a he was pinned to the ground under a tree.  The Stanley Hose Company in Sherman says on Facebook that they responded... along with Ripley and South Ripley fire rescuers to a remote area of the town.  Officials say STAT MedEvac helicopter was called in to transport the man due to the location, and extended extracation time.  The victim was freed... and, flown to UPMC Hamot Medical Center in Erie for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  County EMS and others... including the county's Technical Rescue Team also responded.  The victim thanked all involved for rescuing him.  The Stanley Hose Company called the rescue a "team effort."


Schumer tells local grape growers that he'll push for final approval of new Farm Bill once lawmakers return to Washington in mid-Sept...
One of the main pieces of legislation the U.S. Senate will take up once members return to Washington next month is a new, five-year Farm Bill.  That from Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer during his recent visit to Chautauqua County to push for relief funding for the state's Concord Grape growers.  The New York Democrat says he's been in touch with both the Agriculture Committee's Chairman... and, Ranking Democrat -- Amy Klobushar of Minnesota.  He says both are 'resolved' to getting the bill over the finish line soon after they return on Sept. 15.  The New York Farm Bureau's Bob Patterson says progress has been slow in approving the bill... and, pushed Schumer to get his colleagues to pass it.  Schumer says "it's close... we'll get it done."  Another concern among grape growers is tariffs.  Chad Schofield of Schofield Farms in Westfield says they've been decimated by them... and, they've made the U.S. a "less reliable trade partner."  Another key issue for grape growers is the migration of the Spotted Lanternfly.  That was raised by County Legislator Fred Johnson... who says federal lawmakers could really help in that regard.  It's already devastated grape and other specialty crops elsewhere.


Buffalo man faces federal charges in connection with November raid in Jamestown...
A Buffalo man arrested during a drug raid in Jamestown last November has now been arrested on federal charges in the case.  U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced that 31 year-old Jamarr Cunningham -- also known as "Grass -- " was arrested late last week on a charge of intent to distribute 50 grams of methamphetamine, cocaine, and 40 grams of fentanyl.  Last November... prosecutors say local drug agents made several undercover fentanyl purchases from a co-conspirator of Cunningham's at a Palmer Street residence.  On Nov. 13... drug agents raided the Palmer Street home... seizing quantities of suspected cocaine... methamphetamine... fentanyl... drug paraphernalia, and a quantity of cash.  Cunningham was there and arrested on state charges.  He made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Buffalo... and if convicted... Cunningham faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.. and a maximum of life.


City woman arrested for domestic incident inside car parked at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital...
A woman from Jamestown has been arrested following a domestic incident inside a vehicle parked at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital.  City police were called to the scene on Foote Avenue shortly after 1a.m. Friday morning for the domestic... and, when they arrived made contact with both people involved.  Officers say they found that 23 year-old Crystal Finstad had violated an order of protection to stay away from the other person.  Finstad was taken into custody on one count of second-degree criminal contempt... and, was held pending arraignment.  


Jamestown falls to Tallahassee, Fla. in quarter-final elimination game at Babe Ruth World Series...
It was a tough ending to a great 13 year-old Babe Ruth World Series for the host Jamestown team... but, defending champion Tallahassee, Fla. proved to be too much for the locals last night.  The Southeast Regional Champs scored 7 runs early... then scored 3 more in the bottom of the sixth-inning to win via the 10-run rule.  Tallahassee had to win Thursday morning to move onto the quarter finals... and, blanked Bethel, Conn. 20-0 in four innings.  In the first quarterfinal game last night... Janesville, Wisc. scored a walk-off, 7-to-6 win over Bethel.

Today's first semi-final game is underway at Russell E. Diethrick Park... with Tallahasee playing against undefeated Mililani, Hawaii.  The second game at 7 p.m. will feature undefeated Atlantic Shore, NJ against Janesville.
