NYS Attorney General's Office suing to shut-down "Healing for Heroes" in town of Ellery...
The New York State Attorney General's office has announced it's suing a purported veterans’ charity in Chautauqua County for allegedly defrauding donors for personal gain.  A.G. Letitia James says leaders for the group "Healing for Heroes" -- based in the Bemus Point area -- claimed to be proving free outdoor retreats for disabled veterans... but, only used the property for their own gain.  James says... since it's founding in 2024... the organization has only hosted four retreats, all of which served only board members and their friends and family -- essentially using the charity to fund their own vacations.  An investigation by the A.G.'s office found that the owners of Healing for Heroes’ 30-acre property... Board President Thomas Nelsen and Board Secretary and Treasurer Jennifer Nelsen... rented out the property on Airbnb on at least 32 different occasions in 2024 and 2025... claiming all proceeds would go to their charity.  Instead... James says the couple kept the just over $33,000 in proceeds from the rentals for themselves. The investigation also found that almost half of the nearly $100,000 donated to the organization was spent on property maintenance and improvements, such as a bathroom renovation and a new deck for the property, as well as personal shopping, meals, and other services for board members.  James says she is seeking a court order to dissolve the organization and distribute its assets to charities that actually honor Healing for Heroes’ stated mission.  The A.G. is also asking the court to bar the Nelsens from soliciting funds or serving in leadership positions for any other New York-based charity... and for the court to recoup damages from the Nelsens and impose civil penalties for violations of the FAIR Business Practices Act.

City man arrested following physical domestic incident that occured in front of five juveniles...
A man from Jamestown is accused of pinning a woman to the floor... and, biting her during a domestic incident on the city's northside Wednesday night.  Jamestown police were called to the scene about 10:30 p.m., and on arrival spoke with the victim... who told them that 29 year-old Oscar Allen, Jr., had held her down, preventing her from leaving.  Officers add that the incident occured in front of five juveniles who were at the home.  Police say Allen was not at the scene... but, was found a short distance away.  He was arrested for third-degree assault... second-degree unlawful imprisonment... second-degree harassment... and five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.  Allen was held pending arraignment.

Registered sex offender from Jamestown arrested on new, federal Child Porn charges...
A man from Jamestown who's already a registered sex offender has been arrested on new, federal child pornography charges.  U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced that 42 year-old Eric Brown was taken into custody on a criminal complaint for distribution and possession of child pornography, which carry a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison... and, a maximum of 40 years.  Prosecutors say in February of 2025... state police began investigating Brown after receiving a report from the National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children.  The center said they had gotten a tip from Quora, a social question-and-answer platform... stating that files of suspected child porn were uploaded by an
account later traced to Brown.  This past June... investigators raided Brown’s Van Buren Street residence and seized two cell phones.  Prosecutors say a preliminary review of one of the cell phones determined that it contained suspected child porn.  Brown is a Level-1 Sex Offender in New York following a 2015 conviction.

Most officials, teams, now in Jamestown for start of 2026, 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series...
Most of the officials and teams have arrived in Jamestown for the upcoming, 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series at Diethrick Park.  That from Mayor Kim Ecklund... who is also Host President for this year's tournament... which begins this Sat., Aug. 15-Sat., Aug. 22.  Ecklund says there will be one more team than usual this year... totaling 11.  That includes an international team from Puerto Rico, along with an additional team from the New England region.  Ecklund adds that... thanks to generous sponsors... all 26 games will be open and free to the public.  Activities really pick up on Friday night with a public "Meet and Greet" involving the teams and coaches at the Northwest Arena beginning with team introductions at 6 p.m.  There will also be some fun activities on tap... including bumper car rides in the arena... and, cornhole competition outside.  Ecklund says the games begin with four each day during pool play on Saturday through Wednesday... after that the championship round begins Thursday with single-elimination games through Championship Sat. Aug. 22. 

City man arrested for allegedly operating three-wheel golf cart while under the influence of drugs...
A man from Jamestown has been arrested for driving while under the influence of drugs after his three-wheel golf cart was stopped by police on the city's eastside.  Jamestown officers say they stopped 55 year-old Kevin Newby in the area of Winsor and East Sixth Streets about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for equipment violations. Officers say they found that Newby was driving the golf cart while impaired by drugs.  He was taken into custody on charges of DWAI-Drugs... second-degree unauthorized use... having an unregistered motor vehicle.... an uninspected vehicle... and operating without a license.  He was issued an appearance ticket for City Court.
