Jamestown couple arrested for allowing 3 year-old and three dogs to live in deplorable and unsafe conditions...
Two city residents have been arrested for allegedly allowing their 3-year-old child and three dogs live in deplorable conditions.  Jamestown police were called to assist the Department of Development about 3 p.m. last Friday with an investigation on the city's westside.  Officers say they found the 3-year-old living in deplorable and hazardous conditions... along with the three dogs which appeared malnourished... and, were kept without access to food or water.  Animal Control took the three dogs... and, arrangements were made to ensure the child's safety.  Police arrested 32 year-old Amber Peru and 33-year-old David Burkhart III on one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and three counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals -- Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.  Police say Burkhart was also charged with one count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.  Both were held pending arraignment.

City woman arrested after 1 year-old found wandering on busy street...
A woman from Jamestown has been arrested for allegedly letting a one-year-old child she was babysitting wander on a busy city street last weekend.  Jamestown police say they were called to make a "well-being check" on a toddler wandering on Washington Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. last Saturday.  After safely retriving the child... officers investigated and determined that the sitter... 24 year-old Haily Welch... had left the child outside and unattended during that time.  While being taken into custody... Welch resisted... but, was arrested following a brief struggle.  She was processed and issued an appearance ticket for endangering the welfare of a child... and, resisting arrest. 

Fire destroys vacant town of Arkwright trailer...
Flames destroyed a vacant trailer in the Town of Arkwright Sunday afternoon.  Firefighters from several area departments were called to the fully involved structure fire at 2795 Ball Rd. shortly after 1:45 p.m.  Crews from Cassadaga, Forestville, Fredonia, Stockton, Bay Creek, Sinclairville and Stockton responded, as well as the Sheriff's Office and County Emergency Services.  Forestville firefighters say Bay Creek crews confirmed an exposure about 10 feet away, and Cassadaga crews stopped the fire on that exposure.  Forestville officials add that only defensive operations were made due to the trailer being fully engulfed and partially on the ground.  The fire was ruled accidental... and, no injuries were reported. 

Attendance good for Saturday night's finale for the 81st Gerry Rodeo...
The Gerry Rodeo came to a somewhat wet conclusion last Saturday night after a rainstorm hit the area shortly after the start of the competition.  While a number of people were seen leaving the Rodeo grounds... a large crowd remained for the rest of the show.  On Friday... the rain stopped earlier... and, long-time Rodeo publicist Paul Cooley reported a full-house on hand for their third night.  Rodeo Chairman Tom Atwell says Saturday night was their biggest crowd in the stands by far.  Atwell said people are wet, but, they're enjoying it."  He says they dodged the raindrops a few times over the four-day event... and, that caused attendance to be a little down this year.  An added feature this year was the return of Paul Cooley... who had been recouperating from a brief illness at his daughter's home in Virginia in recent weeks... and, Atwell says he's still writing the rodeo press releases.  This was the rodeo's 81st year.

Jamestown man gets time served on drug conviction...
Another city man has been sentenced to time serviced -- nearly 6-years -- in federal prison for trafficking three types of illegal narcotics.  U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo says 33 year-old Jun Martinez... who was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent
to distribute, and to distribute, 100 grams or more of acetyl fentanyl; 400 grams or more of
fentanyl; 50 grams or more of methamphetamine; and 500 grams or more of cocaine, was
sentenced the approximately 70 months served by U.S. District Judge John Sinatra, Jr.  During the conspiracy... prosecutors say Martinez received several large packages of cocaine, meth, and heroin via mail from an out of state source.  He also provided large quantities of crystal meth and heroin/fentanyl to an individual known to law enforcement, who then sold the drugs to others for profit.  The individual then provided more money to Martinez for more narcotics.  During a trip in September 2020 to acquire more narcotics... Martinez’s vehicle was stopped by an Illinois State Police Trooper.  A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately nearly 9,600 grams of meth... more than 3,100 grams of fentanyl... more than 2,200 grams of cocaine, and marijuana products.  Police later raided Martinez’s Wescott Street home... and, found more drugs, paraphernalia... a drug ledger and about $62,000 in cash.

Buffalo man arrested in Jamestown drug bust...
A man from Buffalo accused of selling illegal drugs in Jamestown has now been arrested following a local investigation.  Sheriff's officers say their narcotics investigators... along with those from Jamestown... raided the lower apartment at 312 East Sixth St. about 1:30 p.m. last Thursday.  They found 32 year-old Laquil Hilson inside... and, a search led to seizure of 31.4-grams of methamphetamine, 23.4-grams of crack cocaine... nearly 12-grams of fentanyl and $2,364 in cash.  Deputies arrested Hilson on three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.  He was jailed pending arraignment in City Court.
